Why I Love Flodesk … and a few things I don’t

5 reasons why I love Flodesk!

#1 DESIGN

The number one thing has to be design. I love a beautiful email more than… well, a lot of things! You can easily make your emails look like mini websites or perfectly match your brand! Not only does Flodesk give you tons of templates to choose from, they are SO easily customizable! You do not need to be a designer to create gorgeous emails with Flodesk. Promise.

TIP: Don’t just change the colors and keep the exact same verbiage on your opt ins/welcome emails! Get creative, make it your own and add some of your brand and personality!

#2 easy to use

New to email? Not a problem with Flodesk. Don’t get me wrong, I started and still love/use Mailchimp and am familiar with Convert Kit, Active Campaign, and heck even MailerLite… but they aren’t the most user friendly. Especially if tech isn’t your thing.

#3 Amazing Price

Flodesk is probably the best priced email host out there. With my code, THEVONDYS, you get 50% off for life making it only $19 a month for everything. EVERYTHING! You also get a lengthy free trial… win win!

Can we agree that email pricing is getting a little out of control? I can’t stand that so many email hosts charge you PER subscriber! Why am I getting punished for you to hold an email for me? I get a company needs to make money, but personally, I like to know the cost going in so I can budget appropriately, not get nickel and dimed when I may have a surge of subscribers. This does not happen with Flodesk!

Mailchimp still offers tons for free, which is great! So if you’re looking for somewhere to start for free, this is a great option. But be aware that there are a lot of limitations. I was sending an email for a client the other day and suddenly I was “out of” test emails?! Say what? I am limited on test emails?! Ugh. Oh did you want to schedule an email? Can’t do that for free… And don’t get me started on the first time I tried to start a workflow in good ole MC, which brings me to my next favorite thing…

#4 automations Workflows

You may think I’m super tech saavy, and while I do think I have more tech ability than your average bear, I sometimes get caught up in the “techy tech” stuff. Trying to set up a workflow in Convert Kit for me the first time I had to watch several YouTube videos before I finally understood how exactly to get it to do exactly what I wanted. This is not going to be a problem in Flodesk!

It’s seriously SO easy, but if you’re confused at all, Flodesk has a video tutorial that can walk you through it in no time. If you need additional help or just don’t have the time… I’m only an email away!

#5 Listens to community / always improving

Flodesk is technically still “in beta,” which, honestly I’m so excited to see what they will look like when they consider they aren’t “in beta” because it’s a pretty amazing service in its current state! This also means that they are listening to what their consumer wants. If you don’t know, Flodesk is women owned (and operated? I didn’t research that!), and these ladies are taking what their users have to say and doing their best to implement as quickly as possible. Not only that, if you’re having an issue, there are tons of helpful videos, a very responsive facebook group AND a very responsive & friendly email staff should you need customized support.

I just joined earlier this year and have already seen massive changes!

Things That Flodesk Doesn’t Have… (yet)

Now, Flodesk is not without some flaws, but then, what software doesn’t have at least a few flaws?

Again, I joined Flodesk in early 2020 and since then I’ve seen 3 huge features unveiled and so many small ones. This company is constantly listening to their community and doing their best to give us what we ask, as fast as developers can, that is! That being said… here are a few things I expect to come to Flodesk soon but aren’t there just yet…

A/B TESTING

A/B testing (or split testing) is essentially testing two versions of something.

Personally, this isn’t a huge deal breaker for me. I actually like that there aren’t TOO many choices as far as testing subject lines, audience, delivery times, etc. I always think, what if your 3pm audience just opens email more than the 10am audience??

However, as a self proclaimed email nerd it would be a fun feature to test out eventually. There’s always a workaround in a situation like this if you really want A/B testing.

in depth analytics

While there is a pretty great analytics backend, showing you who opened, who didn’t, who clicked, I find it isn’t AS depth as my nerdy email heart would like, but I’ll deal with it to have all the good things it provides.

I also recommend you not use their full page email opt in feature, mainly for analytic/tracking purposes. Instead, embed one of their email opt ins into your homepage, use a pop up, or create your own landing page. If you need help with this, I have a course on it!

In depth automations

Flodesk allows you to automate your emails in their “workflows” section, and while you can do a LOT with these, it isn’t quite as in depth as some email platforms. Unless you have a big email list with a complex selling system, this probably won’t be an issue right away for most users.

embedding/linking to 3rd party sites

This might be the biggest draw back momentarily. I’ve had a few clients have issues with connecting their quizzes with Flodesk, which is kind of a bummer, but there’s always a work around! I very much expect them to be updating this in the coming months.
